Budget approved!!

Jane summarized Board Meeting decisions and discussions.

Barbara facilitated a discussion about how to engage more families in PTA and PTA meetings.
Topics for future meetings suggested:  Body Image, Health and nutrition program (the one which is offered as an alternate for Family Life, Movie night, promote parental involvement,  Internation heritage night, Differing start times for PTA meetings, Mentoring program for entering Kindergarten families (match families with experienced  families).
 


 

Cashell Executive Board Meeting 3/2/10


Present:  Ellen, Damon, Barbara, Miguel, Jane, Shadie. 

Motion to start meeting 6:40 pm.  Motion made to approve budget.  Budget approved unanimously. 
Damon spoke to Sophie Sopak concerning Cashell Spirit Wear.  No more merchandise will be purchased until current stock is sold out.  She will sell at swim night.  Damon will ask if prices can be be lowered to sell.

Ellen will be selling mosaic poster at swim night.

Jane and Amy will sent out a Blue and White streak re: swim night will also sell Cashell spirit wear and Mosaics.  Jane will ask Maureen if she will do a connected call for seim night Friday 3/5.

Nominating Committee needs 2 more members.

Jane will pull together a small thank you article for the communique to thank Science Fair volunteers.

Jane has spoken to Nancy Chill about Sally Foster.  We will do it again, but will hear of anything else will shout it out. 

Nancy Delalio mentioned the idea of a yard sale fund raiser in the fall.

Study Island question—what can we do to celebrate the k thru 2nd graders.

Christine Cutino spoke to Amy Crawford about grocery certificates.  We arfe not able to sell any back.

Discussion about how to encourage better attendance at PTA meetings.
Idea:  Transition meeting--- K to 1st grade.  Information for new families.

Damon working on new design for Cashell home page.

Fund Raising

  • 76 Entertainment books sold—grossing $2280.  100 books need to be sold to recoup 50%  of sales.  Suggestion to buy additional 24 books.  Board decided not to buy the additional books.

  • Sally Foster can still be ordered on line.  Very close to breaking record sales. Is Cashell saturated with Sally Foster?

  • Possible fund raising ventures suggested by Maureen Stamoulis  included Duncan Donuts, Joe Corbi's pizza, Rita's.


Magruder Cluster News—Maureen Stamoulis

  • Ted Willard announced MCPS teacher Randy Ornstein (Magruder cluster) has been nominated for teacher of the year.

  • Magruder Cluster links will be added to the grab-bag page of the Communique website.

  • Eilleen DeMarco -Cultural Arts Representative.  Vivaldi's 4 Seasons to be presented. 

  • Disscusion of new mural for school.  Money can come from various sources. Cost estimates $4,000—$10,000.  Suggested artist Craig English. 4th and 5th grade students to be included in project.

Budget Report—M iguel Ruiz

  • Book fair sales projected at $2,400. 

  • There is a $1,400 reduction in projected income. 

  • Budget template needs adjustment before the budget can be approved.

  • School Supply sales profitable.  Bucks program profitable.

  • Board requests that Bill and Miguel go over line by line items to balance budget.

  • Program leaders to find out from committee chairs whether estimates are accurate.


Pam Neidhart has revised the bi-laws.

Cashell PTA General Meeting Minutes

October 6, 2009

 

Sign-In Sheet was circulated (see attached).

 

PTA Meeting Minutes approved for September 1, 2009 meeting with one edit, Volunteer Coordinator should read Denise Dorsey not Cathy Armstrong.

 

Amy Weichel, CES PTA President encouraged:

  • Continued selling of Sally Foster fundraiser items. The due date has been extended to October 13, 2009.

  • People to sign up to volunteer to plant daffodil bulbs on school property. A sign-up sheet was circulated.

  • Families to attend the open house on 10/12/09 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

 

Parent Encouragement Program (PEP) speaker Patti Cancellier, parent educator, spoke on the topic of back talk. The program titled “Back Talk: How Dare You Speak to Me That Way!” shared ideas on how to handle same. Ms. Cancellier took questions from the audience at the end of her presentation.

 

General PTA meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.

Cashell PTA Board Meeting Minutes

October 6, 2009

 

Sign-In Sheet was circulated; members present were Barbara Haslam, Damon Riley, Bill Hicks, Tony Skladany, Miguel Ruiz, Christine Setzer, Amy Weichel, Jane Carstea and Maureen Ahern-Stamoulis.

 

PTA Budget – Amy Weichel, President, Jane Carstea, President Elect and Maureen Ahern-Stamoulis reviewed and discussed some new numbers. Jane will forward these new numbers to Miguel Ruiz and Bill Hicks, Co-Treasurers to revise final budget.

 

Open House, Monday, October 12 – this is an open house for parent’s to observe classroom instruction from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Please leave siblings at home. Encourage people to attend. PTA membership table will be there.

 

Open House for Cashell Community – Sunday’s open house was very successful! Many past families and students toured the new building. Christine Setzer received 20 more brick orders. Now we need a design for the courtyard in order to install the bricks. Need help with designing. Christine Setzer has possibility of 4 crepe myrtle trees which we may dig up for use in same. She also dug 1,000 daffodil bulbs which need planting on school grounds; need volunteers to help! Amy will announce need at general meeting, place in Cougar-gram and notify Denise Dorsey, Volunteer Coordinator of the need.

 

PTA Website Training – Damon Riley is providing web training at 7:00 p.m. in the brand new computer lab to PTA directors and committee members so they may more easily update web page content.

 

MCPS K – 12 Mathematics Work Group – Patrick Dunn in his capacity as MCCPTA liaison has asked for input on the questions asked regarding the MCPS K -12 Mathematics Work Group. MCPS wishes to have this input by 10/23/09. Discussion of the questions and deadline ensued. Decision to send a response via Amy Weichel to include the following items 1) not enough time for our PTA/parent population to respond by 10/23, 2) questions are open ended which would entail enormous time commitment to collate and 3) we have no one to collate any of the data required due to item 2.

 

Executive Board meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m.

Still working on bank reconciliation. Movement approved to push Sandy Spring Bank to work on investigation and reconciliation of funds.

 

Teachers are given $150.00 each for discretionary fund.

 

PTA has $11,000. Aproximately $4,000 is slotted from courtyard brick sales.

 

Budget to be presented at back to school night.

 

Positive report on money raised by PTA. Great additional events added due to fund raising: Guest Author program, In house cultural arts field trips, family swim night.

 

 

Maureen spoke of recognizing staff that goes above and beyond: Debbie Eisenberg should be recognized.

Damon sent all board chairs account number to update info on website.

 

 

Cougar Gram

 

Get new for Cougar Gram to Amy by 3:00pm on Sundays.
